Delighted to say that folk made a real effort to be available, so we were able to travel with 18, including a few former first team stalwarts who added experience and not a little bulk!
Backs: Khalid El Hidane, Jake Dawson, Jason McMillan, Jamie John, Martyn Snell, John McKay, Jamie Andrew, Nick McBain and Ben Morris.
Forwards: David Taylor, Steven Cook, Sean and Ryan Mountain, Richard Scullion, Calvin Cox, John Mason, Peni Dagaga and Matt Lynch.
Lovely conditions for a game in January, firm surface and dry ball.
On top in both scrums and line-outs, Shire were well worth their lead at half time, thanks to 2 powerful tries by Steven Cook and a conversion by Khalid.
However, in the second half, a couple of soft tries and lack of match fitness, allowed Ellon to pull away, notwithstanding some forceful counter-attacks from Shire, and emerge as worthy winners, 38-12.
Martyn Snell was injured in the final play of the game, but after a precautionary visit to hospital was home by the evening.
Numerous players were up for Man of the Match, and the accolade was awarded to Peni.
We look forward to the Dyce match on 25th January at home with a degree of optimism.
