Aberdeenshire RFC brings together north-east rugby players and former long-serving Scotland international rugby captain John Barclay.

Aberdeenshire RFC brings together north-east rugby players and former long-serving Scotland international rugby captain John Barclay to celebrate a successful 2021/22 season at their annual dinner and awards ceremony. The event will be held at the landmark city-center venue, The Aberdeen Douglas Hotel, on April 29.

On the international stage, John Barclay won 76 caps for his country, captaining the Scotland team on 15 occasions and won the last of his caps at his third Rugby World Club in Japan in 2019. He will provide an insight into how he dealt with adversity throughout a 17- year professional rugby career and the ups and downs of a professional sports career.

Charlie Catto, head coach for the men’s team, said “It’s been a successful season for the Club, with the men’s team securing promotion back to Caledonia League 1 and our women’s team performing well in their league and the cup. There is no better way to celebrate the successes than the Club dinner. After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, we were unable to plan social events, which are key to contributing to our Club environment. The end-of-season awards dinner is much anticipated, so I’m sure it will be a fantastic evening for all.”

More than 120 people are expected to attend, all money raised on the night split between DODDIEAID charity, raising funds to aid research into Motor Neuron Disease, and the rugby club’s development for the forthcoming season.

Those attending the event can expect a three-course meal, players' awards presentation, and post-dinner guest speeches. The evening’s entertainment will include a DJ, raffle, and charity auction with some great prizes on offer.

Aberdeen business owners are invited to support the club by taking corporate tables to entertain clients or staff. Tables are priced at £700 including a welcome bar on arrival and wine or beers on the table during the meal.

Colin Bell, club president, said
“The Annual Dinner is an opportunity for the entire, club past and present to get together and celebrate Aberdeenshire RFC, now in our 147th year. We look forward to welcoming John Barclay, sponsors, and guests, for what promises to be an entertaining evening.”
