Match Report Written by Lisa McGregor

Sunday saw the Fraserburgh Ladies RFC joining the ' Shire Quines for a very muddy friendly game at 'Shire's home turf with the game broken down into 4 x 20 minute periods of play.

From the kick off, Aberdeenshire Quines were not holding back anything. The first try of the day was scored after around 10 minutes by our Right-Winger Syla “Can’t Touch Me” Clarke. After the first try everyone wanted a piece of the action and the tries just kept flowing with our second being made four minutes later by our Full-Back Justine “Size Really Doesn't Matter” Hanlon. Unfortunately our Outside Centre Jenna Woods was set to have a fairly inconsistant day from the tee, 10 – 0.

A few minutes later and again our Right-Winger Touch Rugby Extraordinaire, Syla, hot stepped it across the try line. After another short amount of time elapsed, and despite being held together with tape, Kirsty “Jynx” Coghill speedily made it over the white wash.

First Quarter : 20 - 0

The second quarter of the game resumed and it was Mhairi “Baz The Gazelle” Macphail who brought the ball across the line which was then successfully converted by Outside Centre Jenna Woods. Next, did she fall over in the wrong place? Or did our fabulous Loosehead Prop, Zia “Zazzles” Bartlett, intentionally score the next try... Of course she did, bringing the score to 32 – 0.

Outside Centre Jenna Woods was then seen tearing it up the pitch to bring home two further tries for The Quines, but was unable to convert.

Second Quarter: 42-0

Holly “Full Strength” Thompson was the first to bring home the bacon in the third Quarter by scoring the the 9th try of the day. The Captain of our ship Blindside Flanker Maedbh “Mav” Smyth powered through another try for the ‘Shire Quines.
Our returning Judo Master, Heidi Park, continued proceedings with a try of her own a few minutes later. It was then Hatrick time for Syla Clarke with an athletic run in to score another try which was converted by Jenna Woods.

Third Quarter: 64 – 0

Captain Power House Backrower Maedbh Smyth made the 13th try of the day followed by a successful conversion by Jenna Woods. Inside Centre, Mhairi “You Can’t Catch Me” Macphail then scored her second try followed up with another successful conversion by Jenna.

Fraserburgh, never giving up throughout the match, utilised the space that opening up on theoutside, and after passing it through the hands, the ball reached their dangerous winger who broke through the Shire defence rewarding their efforts. 78 – 5.

The allusive Shire Quines Speedster Charne “Shirly” Janse Van Rensburg answered back to the Broch with another try. Not to be left out Oonagh “Which Twin Is It” Murray flew over the line scoring her first try of the game. The last try of the match was then scored by Justine "Mind Over Matter" Hanlon. The conversion was missed by Jenna “Can Someone Else Take The Conversion” Woods.

Many thanks to Fraserburgh Ladies for making the journey through to The Fortress, Woodside, and for fighting hard regardless of the scoreline. We hope to arrange further friendlies in the future!

Many thanks also to Elaine Nicol for donning the Tight-Head jersey again increasing our wee posse of "retirees" up to a trio!
