FINAL SCORE: Aberdeenshire Quines 12 - 22 Shetland Women

Yesterday saw Aberdeenshire Quines RFC kick off their season by welcoming #Shetlandwomensrugby to Woodside Sports Complex for what was always going to be an exciting encounter.

The game began with a 1minute silence, in memory of Eilidh McNab, a well respected player from #grangemouthstagettes, who sadly passed away at the beginning of August.

It was clear from the start that it was going to be a competitive match- with both teams fending off any points for the first 20mins of the game.

The first try was awarded to Shetland at 12:19. Aberdeenshire quickly regrouped and pulled together, for Captain and n8 Maedbth to score a fantastic team try at 12.35, which was then coverted by n6 Naomi Duncan.

This was shortly followed by team speedster Charne scoring a try at 12.40 from 75yrds, with Sheltland bringing it back to score again at 12.45. This brought the half time score to 12-10 to Shire.

The second half saw both teams competing physically for the win, with some impressive line-outs from Aberdeenshire: jumpers n16 Aoife Murray and n7 Eilidh Webster providing tough competition for Shetland. Meanwhile, Shetlands strong scrums throughout were a force to be reckoned with!

The game saw a number of newbies play their first ever game in the red and black strips: n14 Syla, n16 Hannah, n21 Lisa and n11 Oonagh. The team were also delighted to be joined on the pitch by their coach (and formerly retired) quine Kirsty Coghill whose experience and knowledge of the game was evident in her strong runs at 12.

With Aberdeenshire missing a couple of opportunities, Sheltland went on to win the game, scoring a further 2 trys in the second half.

MOTM went to n4 Shannon MacLean for some fantastic rucking and ball carries.

As always, thanks to the Lads of #aberdeenshirerfc for their help behind the bar and support on the sidelines. Similarly, the Quines continue to be thankful for the coaching and support the have recieved from head coach Graeham Buchan as well as coaches Kirsty Coghill, Hendo and Jeff Kelman. #aberdeenshirequines #redandblack
