Missed Tackles lead to 'shire second defeat in pre-season friendly

Conditions were sunny and warm for Aberdeenshire’s 1st XV second friendly game, this time against old rivals Garioch coached by ex-Shire man Charles Cato. Despite many players being unavailable in both sides the clubs managed to get 15 players on the field to stage an entertaining and close fought match. The match which was played in a 4x20minute format was played in good spirit and was expertly handled by Cameron the referee from Dyce RFC. Ever youthful veteran player Neil Gillanders (50) pulled on the second-row jersey and gave a good account of himself. There was also some notable performances by Liam Reid in the front row, Andy Falconer at flanker and Jason Burton at 8 as well as Paul Harrow, Mike Maclugash and Alan Stuart. Unfortunately, rock of the scrum Steven Cook had to leave for work at half time and shire were down to 14 men, but spectator Jonny Gray stuck on the boots and took to the field and after a bit of a reshuffle the fixture continued with 15 as side. Half time score 19-17 to Aberdeenshire. Unfortunately missed tackles in the second half and unforced errors led to Garioch edge the win in the last 10 minutes with 2 unanswered tries. Final Score 31-41 to Garioch.
